The principles of behavior management are the same, whether applied to
resident behavior or employee behavior.
In the work setting, behavior management is generally
called performance management.
- It is systematic in that it follows a clear problem-solving
process: identification, assessment, design, implementation and
evaluation.
- It is behavioral in that it works through changing the
antecedents and consequences to improve performance, emphasizing the
use of positive reinforcement.
- It is data-oriented in that it involves working with performance objectively rather than
relying on subjective impressions.
The course is organized into a series of 16 lessons. Each lesson covers
specific behavioral knowledge and skills to help you understand and
manage the performance of supervisees. We designed the course with
your time realities in mind.
Each lesson consists of:
- Reading material
- Discussion questions (recommended)
- Written exercises (recommended)
- Testing (required to obtain CEUs)
Each lesson should
take about 15-30 minutes to complete. The
time estimate does not include the time you invest in carrying out
certain exercises, such as implementing an actual performance
improvement plan for your supervisees.
